Eurecat presents a new system that allows printing custom silicone prostheses

The Eurecat technology center (member of Tecnio) has presented this week at Chemplast Expo a cutting-edge 3D printing technology that allows the realization of personalized silicone prostheses for the biomedical sector and the health field, from monocomponents or biocomponents and in which the material can be adapted to every requirement.

Silicone “is a material compatible with the human body and is already being used to obtain parts by molding for biomedical or health uses”, so “the 3D printer developed by Eurecat opens the doors to personalized productions”, remarks the director of Eurecat’s Advanced Manufacturing Systems Unit, Raffaele Caminati.

The technology “is part of the so-called Industry 4.0 and allows the control of production and quality, as well as the viewing of parts during production. All of this allows the manufacture of small and personalized series, in a sustainable and efficient way ”, points out the director of Technology and Transfer of Eurecat, Myriam García-Berro.

In fact, García-Berro details, the machine designed by Eurecat “can be programmed directly from the office and allows the status of the sensors and the machine to be controlled directly from the computer on the network.”
