ANIQ promotes the circular economy by promoting the recycling of containers and packaging

Industrial producers of plastic resins affiliated with the National Association of the Chemical Industry (ANIQ), reinforce their commitment to the conservation of the environment and define actions for the responsible management of plastic waste.

According to Miguel Benedetto, General Director of ANIQ, the actions that guarantee the correct production of plastic resins by producers consist of:

  • Increase efforts throughout the value chain to include eco-design aspects, provide sustainable packaging solutions, reuse and recycling.
  • Establish quality standards for recycled plastic resins.
  • Collaborate with the recycling chain in the adoption of management plans and promotion of proper disposal.
  • Promote educational projects to minimize the generation of plastic waste and promote collection, recycling and reuse.
  • ANIQ will offer options for monitoring the recycling and reuse rates of plastic packaging.

During the 50th edition of the National Forum of the Chemical Industry, Miguel Benedetto, explained that the management of solid waste is a global challenge that is increasing. Therefore, it is necessary to adopt measures based on the principles of the circular economy.

In addition, he stressed that working together: industry, governments and society, will make a difference in the market and made special emphasis on three key points that plastic resin producers must voluntarily assume:

  1. 100% of the partners must identify and evaluate the actions to be implemented to achieve the global goal of the “Zero Pellets Program” promoted by Operation Clean Sweap and supported by the Global Declaration of Plastics Associations for 2020.
  2. 100% of the plastic packaging used in the distribution of its products must be recyclable or recoverable by 2030.
  3. 100% of the plastic packaging used in the product’s life cycle must be recycled or recovered by 2040.

Plastics are used in all value chains, since they meet and meet the demands of modern society and contribute to the sustainability of industrial branches thanks to their innovative properties and competitive costs, as well as their characteristics of lightness, durability, flexibility, malleability and versatility.

Some of the peculiarities of plastic include the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions in its multiple applications, and the response to the efficient use of natural resources in the manufacturing, health and food sectors, among others.
