Sealed Air has launched a new film from the Cryovac Darfresh range, yet another innovation in the vacuum skin packaging system to help the food industry reduce food waste and improve cost efficiency. The new film is suitable for mono PP trays and can extend shelf life and enhance brand differentiation for the fresh and processed meat, poultry, fish, cheese and ready meals markets.

This new film addresses the main challenges faced by large distributors and processors across Europe. For example, large retailers estimate that the level of losses in their stores amounts to 26%, and the main factor is the expiration of the product (30%). In addition, to stand out in an increasingly competitive market, large-scale retailers demand more attractive products from the processors and more convenient for consumers. To be able to cope with these demands, processors must also prioritize improving their operational efficiency and profitability while ensuring environmental responsibility.

The aim of this new material is to reduce food waste, a major problem in large European distribution.

Sealed Air’s Cryovac innovation seeks to alleviate these growing pressures for both processors and large distributors. This new top film for mono PP trays extends shelf life by up to 30% compared to modified atmosphere packaging. Its innovative and hermetic welding prevents leaks and allows vertical exposure for greater competitiveness at the point of sale. The glossy skin packaging and easy-open opening make the product more attractive to buyers.

The new top film has been designed for a wide variety of mono-PP trays, providing a wider range of possible tray supply options. Not only are the mono-PP trays thinner (100 microns compared to PP / PE trays), but so is the new film. This helps processors realize cost efficiencies throughout the value chain. Material costs are also reduced due to zero production scrap when used in the Cryovac Darfresh on Tray machine, compared to the 30-40% scrap that is obtained with traditional trayskin packaging machines.

According to Didier Marteau, Sealed Air’s EMEA Marketing Director for Fresh Red Meat: “In an environment of increasing consumer and business demands, processors and retailers can benefit from improvements in sustainability and efficiency. operation provided by the new Cryovac Darfresh mono PP tray top film. With improvements at the processing and packaging level, consumers can also benefit in the form of cost savings and convenience. With the innovation of Cryovac Darfresh everyone wins ”.
