In order to reduce its ecological footprint and reuse as much plastic as possible, Samsung seeks to promote strategies that take advantage of the properties of recycled plastic.
Samsung disclosed that its next Galaxy devices, scheduled to launch this week, will be made in part from recycled marine plastics. The company also confirmed that it aims to incorporate ocean plastics across its entire product line in the near future.
The South Korea-based company said it has developed a new material made from reclaimed plastic fishing nets that would otherwise end up as dangerous marine pollutants.
With these actions, Samsung seeks to breathe new life into marine plastics and expand the use of other environmentally friendly materials. “Reusing plastics in the ocean is just the first step in our collective mission to address the climate crisis,” the company said in a statement.
Recovering plastic: the future of the industry
“Now and in the future, Samsung will incorporate reused ocean-bound plastics across our entire product lineup, starting with our new Galaxy devices that will be revealed on February 9 at Unpacked,” the tech giant detailed.
In its message to the media, the firm specified that each year some 6,40,000 tons of fishing nets are abandoned and discarded, which are a “hidden threat” to the environment. In order to reduce its ecological footprint and reuse as much plastic as possible, Samsung seeks to promote strategies that take advantage of the properties of recycled plastic.
It should be noted that Samsung has joined a new trend of great success that seeks to promote the use of recycled ocean plastics in electronic devices. Last year, for example, Microsoft announced an Ocean Plastic Mouse for its Surface devices. This mouse was created using a resin made from 20% recycled ocean plastic recovered or washed ashore from oceans and waterways.
