Plásticos que reducen el impacto ambiental

Environmental impact is an issue that is receiving increasing attention in the Plastics Industry. Solutions to mitigate negative effects on the environment range from products to sustainable processes.

To reduce the environmental impact, there are many initiatives and solutions that the Plastics Industry implements in its processes and product development. For example, the Polyamides manufactured by UBE (PA6, CoPA 6 / 6.6, TerPA 6 / 6.6 / 12) are used mainly in the food sector, as part of flexible packaging and also find application in the Automotive industry.

Its use in flexible food packaging allows, on the one hand, to reduce the thickness of the packaging –reduction of necessary plastic–, and CO2 emissions in production and transport, which improves the resistance of the packaging and the preservation of food. , in addition to minimizing waste, now estimated at 30% worldwide.

Thanks to their excellent thermal and mechanical resistance, as well as their oxygen and aroma barrier properties, Polyamides are highly suitable polymers for the production of light packaging for electronic commerce.

On the other hand, and in order to minimize the environmental impact, in the Automotive industry they contribute to making vehicles lighter: it reduces fuel consumption and combustion gas emissions.

In its commitment to sustainability, UBE promotes the circular economy of its products, such as the NATURPOL project, which replaces petroleum derivatives with raw materials from renewable sources, and LIGNOPRIZED, where biotechnology and chemistry come together to obtain plastics from lignin , a residue of the Paper, Forest Pruning and Agriculture industries.

In addition to RECIPAM, an initiative that aims to find new applications for multilayer plastic structures that protect food once they have finished their function.

Since 1994 UBE Corporation Europe has been the subsidiary of the Japanese group UBE Industries Ltd. for the Atlantic area (Europe, Africa, the Middle East, North and Latin America). Its headquarters are in Castellón and it has offices in Madrid, Düsseldorf, Sao Paulo and Mexico City.

The polyamides, polycarbonate diols and polyurethanes manufactured by UBE provide solutions to highly demanding applications, where only high-performance plastics “play”, such as motor parts, sports and transport security systems, synthetic leather and coatings. that withstand abrasion and chemicals, hydrogen pressure deposits, or food containers that allow cooking, refrigeration and freezing, with high resistance to stretching and puncture without breakage.
