According to Anipac data, the Plastics Industry suffered a contraction of almost 7% as a result of the health contingency

The Plastics Industry was one of the sectors that was hit due to the bans and closure of activities that were implemented due to the COVID-19 pandemic, assured Aldimir Torres, president of the National Association of the Plastics Industry (Anipac).

During his participation in the inauguration of Plastimagen 2022, the most important trade fair for the plastics sector in Latin America, the manager pointed out that this industry suffered a contraction of almost 7% as a result of the health contingency.

Prohibition: the challenge for the Plastics Industry

Aldimir Torres lamented that these damages were also due to “absurdly prohibitive factors” such as the bans imposed on single-use plastics, which have turned out to be a “very strong blow.”

Specifically, after the pandemic, more than 90 thousand tons of impact products have stopped being produced.

“Far from being a sad and gray panorama, it is a reality that asks us to remain united to promote almost 5,000 companies that make up the sector that the industry continues to be a very important spark plug in the engine that moves the economy of this country through the business opportunity that is presented as a great opportunity”, mentioned the president of Anipac.

For his part, José Navarro, general director of Tarsus México, pointed out that the new edition of Plastimagen is a triumphant return for the industry to face-to-face events and an opportunity to strengthen and give a boost to business and the economy.

In line with the promotion of sustainability values, Braskem Idesa was recognized during the event for its PCR resin solution for high-performance applications.
