Basketball yarns, soles and courts are examples of the many products that Nike creates by transforming plastic bottles, and manufacturing new materials from waste materials and used products, as part of the 30-year commitment to comprehensive sustainability, which is detailed in the latest Sustainable Business Report.

75% of all the clothing and footwear of the firm contain some type of recycled material, where more than reuse, the firm manufactures some of its most iconic products in a sustainable way. Air is one of the innovations that most supports this principle.

The Air technology consists of compressed air inside a bag that is as resistant as it is flexible that is found in the midsole under the heel, the forefoot, or both, for a sensation of walking or running on air.

Air is made with more sustainable materials, computerized designs and advanced production techniques. The goal: to make it lighter and stronger, in addition to minimizing the company’s impact by using more recycled materials.

Currently, Nike Air Manufacturing Innovation facilities divert more than 95% of manufacturing waste from landfills, that is, 23 tons of materials (the equivalent of almost 10 Olympic swimming pools) from May 2016 to 2017 alone.
