With the support of Refitech Composite Components and its German ‘partner’ Whitecane has developed the fully composite white IO cane. Thanks to its ergonomic thin-walled carbon grip and tube, the IO material is extremely lightweight, making it easy to handle while enhancing sensory perception. The design also features a patented performance mechanism, which reduces the risk of collision injuries, and is complemented by a lightweight GEO rolling tip.

“The cooperation with Refitech and CG TEC came about when we bought carbon tubes for our first prototypes from the CG-TEC webshop,” says Whitecane’s Lüder Mosler. “Around the same time, we asked various suppliers for a possible carbon grip, including CG TEC. Then they mentioned their cooperation with Refitech and got the carbon handle through their association. Both companies have shown a great willingness to respond to our very specific technical and economic requirements, and find good solutions together. This has resulted in a highly innovative carbon fiber white cane that is unmatched on the market today. “

Whitecane came to us on the recommendation of one of our customers, “explains Oliver Kipf from CG TEC.” The idea and background of the IO white cane were introduced in a first conversation, which immediately piqued our enthusiasm. Based on Whitecane’s requirements We first developed the carbon fiber tubes that could withstand the expected pressure loads in combination with high bending stiffness. Especially the tight tolerances were a challenge, but in the end we solved it. In a second step we brought in our partner Refitech in the equation. Thanks to the perfect support from Refitech and the Whitecane team, we now successfully produce the IO for them, “he concludes.

The IO White Cane was launched earlier this year and is being sold directly in an online store, by a charity that specializes in training for visually impaired people, and by individual mobility trainers. The white cane was developed in close dialogue between partners and a small group of users, who wholeheartedly support the project.
