Due to its physical and mechanical properties, rubber is widely used in automotive applications, however elastomers, which can be reused and recycled, are beginning to gain ground.

According to Alberto Oba, director of Kraiburg TPE Mexico, in America and Europe the industry that shows the most growth in the world of thermoplastic elastomers is the automotive industry.

In this context, the executive reported that the industrial and medical consumer sectors also present an important development.

“In addition to its recyclable potential, another advantage of TPE is that it can be processed in injection, extrusion and some blowing applications”.

Alberto Oba divides the market into three segments:

1) Exterior. Glass encapsulation: side and sunroof, as well as rear lamps; 2) Interior. Soft feel buttons and knobs, cup holders, floor mats and doors; and 3) Inside the engine. High temperature technology that is installed inside the transmission and functions as a seal.

“In general, we offer products with a good surface to the touch, ultraviolet protection, technologies where the thickness of the walls is very thin and requires a material with good flow,” he said.

The firm will present at Plastimagen 2019 solutions that focus on areas of electronic and industrial consumption, such as: cell phones, sports watches, mobile phone cases, as well as materials with nylon adhesion, for general use, or that comply with with international standards.
