A small step is often a major obstacle for people who are in a wheelchair or have reduced mobility due to disability or age. Every day we find places with accessibility problems and obstacles that prevent us from accessing certain sites normally. Access ramps for the disabled are an excellent solution to solve these accessibility problems.
The ramps can be found in a fixed or mobile version, which allows them to be installed in a multitude of spaces. The important advances in R + D + i that have taken place in recent years to create new applications from tire recycling have, for example, made it possible to transform the granulated rubber of used tires into robust, safe ramps for wheelchairs and silent.
The rubber from end-of-life tires makes it possible to replace the use of metal or wood for the manufacture of these ramps, saving environmental, energy, and economic costs. On large ramps, up to 92 kg of end-of-life tires are used, with a load capacity of 500 kg.
The rubber is strong and durable creating a smooth transition for wheelchair mobility or for those using walking racks. They are also non-slip and provide great stability, reducing the risk of trips and falls. Also noteworthy is its resistance and long duration since rubber is a material that lasts for decades and does not decompose due to intensive use or exposure to the elements, remaining in good condition against adverse weather conditions, whether hot, dry, humid. or cold. Its versatility and ease of customization in different formats allows its easy installation in multiple constructions: residential buildings, offices, care centers for the elderly and hospitals, schools, shopping centers, warehouses, factories and industrial environments.
Every year a large quantity of end-of-life tires are discarded, recycling makes it possible for these to go from being waste to being a resource, taking on a second life and a new beginning for all the materials that comprise it, contributing to the construction of a sustainable future within the framework of the circular economy. At present, the new uses of the recycled tire are many. If they cannot be renewed, they go to recycling plants where their different components (rubber, textile fiber and steel) are extracted and separated. Hand in hand with technological advances, its raw materials are reused for an endless list of new uses, among them these ramps for wheelchairs.
In this sense, with the informative campaign “Did you know that …?” TNU works to raise awareness in society, publicizing the possibilities of recycling and reusing end-of-life tires that are collected at the different generating points, thus promoting the responsibility of each of us with our environment and with a more sustainable lifestyle.
