Recyclass launched a new certification scheme that guarantees the traceability of recycled plastic from its origin to the final product, in addition to indicating the recycled content
Recyclass launched the Recycled Plastics Traceability Certification, a new certification scheme that allows to accredit the traceability of recycled material from the source, as well as the exact recycled content of each product.
By providing transparent information on the provenance of the recycled material, you will increase consumer confidence regarding the sustainability of the product.
The advantage over other similar certifications is that, in this case, a minimum content is not necessary, since the exact percentage of recycled material it contains is determined (which broadens the variety of products that can be certified), whose origin can be both pre-consumer and post-consumer.
This certification complements that of EuCertPlast, since to the traceability in the recycling process is added the monitoring until its transformation into a finished product, under the same traceability criteria.
There were four auditors from the pilot tests across Europe. In the case of Spain, it was Enrique Moliner, an expert researcher in Recycling and Sustainability at Aimplas, the Technological Institute of Plastic, who carried out the audits at Armando Álvarez and at Klöckner Pentaplast.
According to Enrique Moliner, with this standard there will be guarantees on the recycled plastic content in the products and also on the origin of the recycled material.
“It is an essential tool in these times to be able to give confidence to consumers and possibly it will also be key for the Administration, which is already beginning to demand the use of recycled plastic in new products.”
The Certification of Traceability of Recycled Plastics, in which auditors from Denmark, Belgium and Italy also collaborated, will be operating from the third quarter of the year.
