The Lanjarón natural mineral water brand launches its first bottle on the market made of 100% recycled plastic (r-PET) and 100% recyclable, which represents a great leap in its commitment to the environment. This new bottle is the evolution of the iconic red bottle that the brand launched last year. That edition was made of 50% r-PET and was the product that championed the then newborn Lanjarón Project. This initiative represented the materialization of the sustainable values of the brand and with it different actions to combat the abandonment of waste and in favor of the circular economy have been financed.
100% of the profits from this bottle will be used to finance causes for the preservation of the environment.

100% of the profits from this bottle have been dedicated to financing nature preservation projects and now the brand reinforces its position with the new edition: red, but 100% green. “We presented our red bottle to emphasize our commitment to the environment and to reinforce our work in protecting nature,” explained François-Xavier Lacroix. In addition, the manager wanted to highlight that it is “a pioneering project that aims to continue increasing the percentage of recycled plastic throughout our range.” A figure that reaches 20% and that, in the words of Lacroix, “we want to continue increasing as quickly as possible”. In addition, he concluded that “our idea is clear: quality is not incompatible with sustainability.”

For this reason, the brand and the different divisions of the company focused on reaching 100% r-PET and being able to launch it within the framework of its 200th Anniversary, celebrated throughout 2018.

The red bottle is the result of collaborative work between practically all its departments, from the R&D and CSR teams to the general management. One of the most interesting aspects is the attention that has been paid to the eco-design of the bottle.

Furthermore, as usual in Aguas Danone, collaboration with its partners is essential. Ecoembes, as the largest national expert on recycling issues, has been an important support in the analysis and improvement of the recyclability of these new formats. In addition, with Inedit as an expert consultant on the sustainability of consumer products, an analysis of the life cycle and environmental impact of these new formats has been carried out, helping to detect points of improvement in the production and distribution process. On the other hand, thanks to the growing awareness of citizens regarding recycling, it is possible that materials such as recycled plastic are available on the market in order to develop innovative projects like this one.

Commitment to the environment has been part of the DNA of Lanjarón’s natural mineral water since its birth. The reason is none other than its privileged origin, as it arises from the peaks of the Sierra Nevada National and Natural Park, declared a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO in 1986. In this way, the company has worked with the mind set on the protection of nature through different initiatives such as ‘So that garbage does not reach the sea’, consisting of cleaning different boulevards in Andalusia; or “For more meters of clean coasts”, for the cleaning of different points of the peninsular coast.
