SABIC’s solution is the first in the industry to be certified
The new polycarbonate (PC) of the Saudi company SABIC, provides its customers with a solution with the potential to reduce both CO2 emissions and the use of fossil raw material during production, in response to regulatory demands and a circular market .
Environmental benefits
An LCA study on SABIC’s PC traceability reveals potentially significant reductions in carbon footprint (up to 50%), specifically LEXAN resin produced from fossil naphtha, which is part of the broad portfolio of thermoplastics from engineering (ETP), where customers can use it on their current equipment and under the same process conditions as before.
ISCC certification
The Group worked closely with The International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC), who carried out tests on the incorporation of renewable raw material in their PC production and the verification of compliance with sustainability requirements.
SABIC’s polycarbonate can be used for applications in all market segments, such as automotive, electronics, electrical, construction and healthcare, and will initially be produced at the manufacturing facilities in Bergen in the Netherlands.
