Each year, about 19.3 million metric tons of waste tires are generated worldwide
20 years ago, in Germany alone, more than half of all scrap tires were incinerated to generate power, while every tenth scrap tire was processed into granules.
Currently, the volume of the latter reaches a similar percentage of processing to that registered in energy production and with VESTENAMER®, Evonik helps to close the cycle in a sustainable way.
In the recycling of rubber waste, the addition of VESTENAMER® proved its worth in the production of useful items, such as floor coverings, mats and support systems for marking road works and barriers.
According to Peter Hannen, Market Development Manager at VESTENAMER, as an additive it improves the flowability of the rubber compound, thus the material is processed more efficiently.
“The reactivity and structure of the polymer are also important: both lead to a good network density between the rubber particles. This positively impacts the mechanical properties ”.
In addition to the economic aspect of providing a profitable raw material, tire recycling is also important from an ecological point of view. For example, it significantly reduces the carbon footprint.
