Polymers Power Holographic Display for Mobility

Covestro and Ceres Holographics have signed an agreement to commercialize a photopolymer film that enables new line-of-sight applications on the front, side and rear windows of vehicles

Scottish technology firm Ceres Holographics signed a strategic partnership with Covestro, a leading polymer producer, to market photopolymer films that can support holographic display with transparent automotive displays.

This pact will make it possible to develop special solutions with custom holographic optical elements (EOH), which enable a new generation of transparent display applications for cars and commercial vehicles.

A film for holographic display

Holographic projection is gaining ground in the Automotive industry and, thanks to technology, many vehicles have incorporated security systems that include holographic projection.

The film created by Covestro is thin, transparent, and features a light-sensitive, self-developed photopolymer. The material is ideal for the production of volume holograms that can be viewed from different dimensions and is highly efficient. It is worth mentioning that, throughout the collaboration between Covestro and Ceres Holographics, the two partners have customized this solution to meet the specific requirements of this application.

This transparent screen enables new line-of-sight applications in automobiles and commercial vehicles – in the front, side and rear windows of vehicles – to give drivers, passengers and pedestrians a safer and more enjoyable user experience on the road. They also provide the quality, price levels and production volumes demanded by OEMs in the Automotive industry.

The project is yet another example of how customers are increasingly demanding specialized solutions, ”explained Yuen-Ling Lok, Head of Business Operations and Holographic Light Guide at Covestro.
